The first picture was taken at my 14th birthday party (I wasn’t even my heaviest then but it was one of the clearest pictures I could find). The second one was taken yesterday, the morning of my 19th birthday. I had struggled with my weight since I was 8. Being the tallest kid also meant being the largest and I didn’t want to accept that. It wasn’t until I was in the midst of my teenhood that I learned to love myself and accept my body no matter what size it may be.
The first 20 pounds I lost on my own by just eating healthier, occasionally using an elliptical, and walking more often. When I got a job, I spent most of my paychecks on personal training. Within the three months I booked my trainer, it became less about losing weight and more about wanting to feel stronger and be fitter. The second 20 pounds that came off was just a bonus!
Now I just work on eating right and going to the gym when I can. Even doing that, the scale is still dropping slowly but surely. My goal is to be the healthiest I can be and tone the body that I’ve molded for myself.
I never thought I’d come this far so if you’re struggling with building a healthier body for yourself, take it from me: you can do it and you will do it. Don’t give up!
