I am 4’11” and currently 238lbs, for a total loss of 71 pounds in a year!
I decided I needed to look at my progress and stop fretting on the fact that my weight loss has slowed a lot in the past 5 months. In doing so I have stopped to think about all the things that have changed about me besides my weight. And let me tell you, those far outweigh the 71 pounds that I have lost. I can do SO many things I never even thought about doing or thought I could do! I can SEE my muscles on my arms, back, and chest, which has never happened before! I can bench slightly over HALF my body weight, I can squat plates (135lbs), I can run a mile in 12 minutes (5 minutes shorter than my fastest from HS), I am the strongest person %-wise at my gym, beating out even the men there! I no longer avoid activities that involve being active and outside, I seek them out! I invite my friends to do crazy 5ks and the like with me, and join in when they invite me! I have completed an indoor triathlon and am currently training for a USA triathlon sanctioned event! I have the confidence to show off my arms and wear clothes I never would have worn before! I could list so many more things, but I will stop here.
I know I still have a ways to go, but there is already so much that I have gained that I need to pause and appreciate it, especially during the rough patches when my weight seems to be going nowhere. If you’re in this rut currently as well, take a moment and look at all the non-scale victories you have achieved. Share them! Share them with me if you think you’ve got no one who will cheer about them with you. The non-scale victories are honestly the ones that matter the most, you should celebrate every single one of them, even if it’s just as simple as you made it around the block without stopping. Every step is a step forward, no matter what the scale says.
