louisvillenoms: Though the years I’ve had this blog, I’ve…

louisvillenoms:

Though the years I’ve had this blog, I’ve updated periodically about my weight loss efforts. I’m really happy to be able to say that after four years of work, I’ve reached my goal and lost half my body weight. These before-and-afters are from four years ago and this past weekend.

Seriously.

I’m not going to bore you with the details of my struggles with body image, disordered eating, and unhealthy attitudes. I’m not going to give you numbers because those always triggered me. I’m not going to give you all the specifics of my diet and exercise plan unless you ask, but I’m always happy to help!

I am going to say this: I’m really proud of myself. I’m proud of my positive life changes and my hard work. Never, ever, ever give up. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t reach your goals. Silence those ugly little voices that say “you can’t do this” even if one of them is your voice.  And this goes for everything. If weight loss isn’t your goal (and it doesn’t have to be, if you can be happy with your weight I don’t care what it is!) pursue your other goals with gusto and courage.

I’ll also say this, since this is a food blog. Keeping this blog and the associated writing and social media along with it has actually helped me grow a better attitude about food and eating. People often ask me “how did you lose weight and stay such a foodie?” The answer is really complicated for me. Through my work on this blog I  learned that moderation in everything (even moderation) is achievable. I also learned to value quality over quantity, a seriously great lesson for anyone trying to drop weight or become more healthy. I’d rather have on scoop of artisan ice cream in a cool new flavor than a pint of grocery store ice cream. I’d rather have one beautifully made cocktail than six shots of Fireball. You get the idea.

Thanks for being there along with me, guys. Thanks for all the support over the years, and thanks for your continued support as I continue to pursue a healthy, full, and happy life.
